John Edmondson

 
  also spelled Edmiston, Edminston, Edmundson, Edmonson  

Fincastle County, Virginia was created in 1772 from Botetourt County and abolished in 1776. It was divided into Montgomery, Washington and Kentucky Counties.

John Edmondson was born about 1699 in Virginia.

His wife was named Margaret.

John and Margaret's children may have included:

Robert Edmondson,
Andrew Edmondson,
daughter Edmondson (married Samuel Steele),
William Edmondson (1734),
Samuel Edmondson (1738), and
John Edmondson (1745, married Sarah Edmondson and Margaret Donnell).

John died about 1771 in Rockbridge County, Virginia.

In 1773, William, Thomas, Robert and Margaret Edmondson were listed with the united Presbyterian congregations of Ebbing and Sinking Springs, on the Holston River in Fincastle County, Virginia when they called the Reverend Charles Cummings to be their pastor.

In 1780, seven Edmondson men were in the Battle of King's Mountain: Andrew, John, Robert, Jr. and Sr., Samuel, and three Williams. Andrew, Captain Robert, and Captain William were killed. Robert, Jr. was wounded.

The Battle of Kings Mountain was a decisive battle of the American Revoluton. It took place on October 7, 1780, nine miles south of the present-day town of Kings Mountain, North Carolina. The Patriot militia defeated the Loyalist militia commanded by British Major Patrick Ferguson.
